How to Spend a Weekend in Trieste

Trieste might not be as popular as other cities like Rome, Florence and Venice in Italy, but that is the reason why this place is surprisingly incredible for a weekend escape. This city isn't too populated and crowded comparing to the big ones. We simply enjoyed our time here and we thought we made a good choice of staying here over the weekend. Let's see what you could do there like how we spent our weekend in this beautiful and relaxing city - Trieste.

Wake up Early to See the Empty Piazza Unità d'Italia

If you could manage to get up early, that'd be great! You would be able to see a very empty Plaza of Italy; even enjoy taking pictures of yourself and literally nobody's watching! This plaza reminds us of the St. Mark's Square in Venice a lot, where it's also located very close to the sea, but giving you a huge space for pictures without crowds and pigeons.

Start a Good Morning with Breakfast at a Classy Cafe

This cafe is very popular and it was quite full at the time we arrived. We woke up early for their breakfast! The outdoor seating was so full so we had to sit inside instead. We were happy that the interior looked very classy and photogenic! It was a lovely breakfast time to start a good morning. However, the food was a bit pricy and we simply don't think a croissant could cost that much, especially it wasn't a really outstanding one...

Watch over the Sea from Miramare Castle

This place was like a dream to everyone! A castle next to the sea, that could exactly be a dreamscape everyone would have imagined once. This castle isn't that big but it was good enough for you to spend like an hour or more here. Basically we spent most of the time watching over the sea more than looking around inside the castle itself.

Eating Pasta in a Local Seafood Restaurant

Seafood is one of the must-eat in seaside Trieste. We were so glad that we found this restaurant because their pasta with seafood was ultra delicious and we're serious. The one we ordered was ravioli pasta which is like a very thin dumpling stuffed with shrimp in it. The sauce was mouth-watering; it had absorbed the favour of the shrimp which made it so tasty! This was the best pasta we ever had in our life so far. We should start trying to make it ourselves or we would have to come back for more!

Enjoy the Signature View of Trieste from Ponte Rosso

The first image of Trieste came across to us was Ponte Rosso. Why? This place is probably the most historical and significant to Trieste. It looks as pretty as you could see in the photo. Never leave Trieste without a picture of this beautiful view! It was very pleasant walking by the side, too.

Follow the Path to See the View of Trieste Port

Of course you have to see Trieste clear enough. To do this, simply just follow our suggested path right next to the port, from starting point Ex Lighthouse La Lanterna to Piazza Unità d'Italia, where you will have a chance to slow down your moment and be able to see this beautiful harbour in a carefree and slow-paced way.

Have an Italian Dinner in a High-end Restaurant

The setting of this restaurant is cute in purple! You definitely pay for everything not only the food but also the service and the atmosphere. Their dishes were overpriced and they weren't as good as we expected in such a high-end restaurant. We paid 4 euro each for the bread... something that we usually expected to be complimentary. We are not really a big fan of the traditional Italian polenta we ordered... the texture was quite interesting and it was just too salty to us.

Waiting for the Sunset by the Sea

The best place for sunset in Trieste is Molo Audace! It's just right in front of the Piazza Unità d'Italia and is very close to Ponte Rosso. From here, you will be able to see the best sunset in Trieste as nothing is in front will block your sight! The best time to arrive here is half an hour before sunset time to "secure" your best "spot" for the view. This sunset view was overwhelming as the colour changed gradually bit by bit. We enjoyed our time here so much! It was just amazing!

Complete a Day in a Bar with Food and Drink

You will always need a cheat meal after an exhausting fun day. This Italian bar offers everything from mid-night snacks and main courses to beers and signature cocktails. The crisps and fish we ordered was so good! The fish was very tender and juicy; the crisps were so crispy and nicely flavoured! This place totally made our prefect day complete!

La Caffetteria Del Borgo Trieste | Via Malcanton, 6, 34121 Trieste TS, Italy ★★★★☆ How does Trieste look to you? This place was nothing like what we expected at all. It was completely over our expectation, and of course in a good way.
